Brookfield Zoo is located in Chicago's western suburbs and is managed by the Chicago Zoological Society, a private, non-for-profit corporation, which was founded in 1921. The zoo is accessible by public transportation and major highways (Stevenson Expressway, I-55 and the Eisenhower Expressway, I-290) and is approximately a ½-hour drive from Chicago’s downtown loop area. The land and facilities of the zoological park are owned by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.
