WelfareTrak® for Chimps

Though we don’t house chimpanzees at Brookfield, there is great need to monitor their welfare, because chimpanzees often have unique and complicated rearing histories, personalities, and idiosyncrasies. In order to address this need, we have partnered with 17 AZA-accredited zoos in the US to tackle the challenge of assessing and improving the welfare of chimpanzees in human care.

Mexican Gray Wolves Born at Brookfield Zoo

A litter of five Mexican gray wolves were born at Brookfield Zoo on April 25, 2016, the second litter born to Zana, 4, and Flint, 6. Currently, three of the puppies are in a den being nurtured by their pack at the zoo’s Regenstein Wolf Woods habitat. Animal care staff anticipate they will begin to emerge from the den site and be visible to guests in a few weeks.
