Veterans Day Ceremony at Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield, IL—To honor those who have proudly served our nation, the Chicago Zoological Society invites the public to a special Veterans Day ceremony at Brookfield Zoo’s Discovery Center on Sunday, November 11. On Veterans Day, admission to the zoo is free for all guests (a parking fee still applies.)

From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., guests can view an array of military vehicles and memorabilia, including uniforms and documents, from the Revolutionary War to the present.

Greeting guests from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. will be a few of the zoo’s animal ambassadors, accompanied by animal care staff. Also joining the day’s event will be the Legacy Girls, who will perform toe-tapping hits from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s from noon to12:45 p.m.
The 1:00 p.m. Veterans Day ceremony will feature the posting of colors by members of Joliet High School’s Jr. ROTC followed by a performance of the National Anthem.  After the ceremony, guests are invited to stay for an entertaining routine by the popular Jess White Tumblers.

In addition, representatives from Wounded Warrior Project®, Phenix Group, and Road Home Program will share a wide range of services and programs offered to members and veterans of the military, and in some instances family members as well. Additionally, staff from Paws Assisting Wounded Warriors (PAWWS)Chicago will talk about how they can help returning veterans link up with canine companions. And, staff from Honor Flight Chicago will have information about how senior war veterans can enroll in a one-of-a-kind journey to Washington, D.C. as well as opportunities for the general public to volunteer for the organization.

At Hamill Family Play Zoo (free admission), children can create “thank you” cards for veterans that will be posted in the building.
The Chicago Zoological Society is proud to offer free general admission to Brookfield Zoo year-round to active, reserve, and retired members of the Armed Forces with a valid military ID.
