Chicago Zoological Society now Accepting Digital Entries for 2022 Photo Contest
Submission Deadline Is August 12

Brookfield, Ill. — After a seven years hiatus, Brookfield Zoo’s Photo Contest is back, and it’s going digital! So, grab your camera and head to the zoo, where you might just capture a winning shot. The grand prize is a Brookfield Zoo Family Plus Membership; Penguin Encounter for two people; an original painting by Leo, the zoo’s red panda; and a $100 Brookfield Zoo gift certificate.

Photo submissions, which can be color or black-and-white, must feature an animal or animals, although they do not have to be taken at Brookfield Zoo. (Photos with people will not be accepted and will be disqualified). Entries must be a JPG/JPEG at a minimum resolution of 3600 x 2700 pixels and a maximum file size of 24MB at time of submission. One entry per person.

All entries, along with a completed Photo Contest official entry form must be received by August 12, 2022, 5:00 p.m. CT. For the official rules as well as to obtain an entry form, go to CZS.org/2022PhotoContest.

Professional photographers will judge the photos and select their top seven choices in the following categories: mammals, birds, and reptiles/amphibians/invertebrates/fish. In addition, judges will choose their top five picks from all entries to be considered for the grand prize. New this year, the public is being asked to determine the winners by going to the zoo’s website and voting for their favorite grand prize photo and first-, second-, and third-place winners in each of the other three categories. The photo with the most votes in the grand prize category will take the top prize. The photo with the most votes in each of the categories will receive first-place, the photo with the second most votes will receve second-place, and the photo with the third most votes will receive third-place. Public voting will take place from August 24 to September 7, 2022.

Contest winners will be notified by phone, email, and/or mail by September 12, 2022. Prizes will be awarded during a reception for winners on September 24, 2022. Winning photos will be displayed at Brookfield Zoo on a digital monitor, which is located at the Hamill Family Nature Plaza, at least through October 31, 2022. A photo of the grand prize winner and his/her photo will be published in Gateways, the Chicago Zoological Society’s members’ magazine. Winning photos along with winning photographers’ names and their photos will be posted on the Society’s website once all winners have been notified.
