PUNTA SAN JUAN PROGRAM

Started in 2007 as a one-year project to assess Humboldt penguin health, the Punta San Juan Field Research and has evolved into a comprehensive field program that grows each year. Dr. Susana Cárdenas-Alayza, Director of the Punta San Juan Program, oversees the efforts to protect Humboldt penguins, cormorants, pelicans, and pinnipeds (South American fur seals and sea lions). The program is in partnership with the Center for Environmental Sustainability at Cayetano Herdia University in Lima, Peru, and the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Institute.
